SUMMARY:The Lady's Boudoir: underclothes and accessories.
DESCRIPTION:‘The Lady’s Boudoir’ conjures up an image of a private\, glamorous space\, where items of intimate apparel; knickers\, corsets\, petticoats\, stockings\, lotions and lingerie\, ribbons and lace\, potions and powders would be used by ladies of means to polish and perfect the ideal of beauty of the age. Of course\, it was not always so – especially for the working woman of Frome. \nThe museum is open: \nTuesdays – Saturdays\, 11am – 3pm\nand Frome Independent Market Sundays \nEntrance to the galleries and to the exhibition is free. SUMMARY:Dress Up Friday - The Coat of Hopes - Frome Connects May 2026
DESCRIPTION:On the first of May as part of the Frome Connects project and the ongoing weekly “Dress Up Fridays”\, we are welcoming the Coat of Hopes to the Boyle Cross in the centre of Frome.\nThe Coat of Hopes is a patchwork coat on an ongoing walking pilgrimage through the UK towards the end of the climate and ecological emergency.\nIt has been made by and worn and walked by many hundreds of people on a journey on foot of over 2000 miles so far. It carries people’s hopes for the places they live\, sewn into the blanket patches of which it is made.\nAll who encounter it are invited to wear it and (whilst the Coat song is sung) take a moment to be conscious of themselves at this time\, standing in connection with all those who have made or worn the Coat before them and with the life and land it has witnessed on its way.\nWe will meet at the fountain to honour the coat and all it stands for – connecting with ourselves\, our community and the planet. \nTake a look at a short video about the Coat of Hopes here.

SUMMARY:Alice Seeley – Anti-Slavery Campaigner
DESCRIPTION:This joint exhibition with Photo|Frome presents searing photographs by Frome resident Alice Seeley (1870–1970) in King Leopold II’s Congo Free State. Using her Kodak camera\, she documented the mutilation of Congolese people under a brutal regime designed to enforce rubber production quotas. Shown internationally as lantern slides\, her images galvanised public opinion and resulted in the collapse of Leopold’s personal rule in 1908. Alice Seeley was arguably the first photographer to create and use her own images as part of an active campaign for social change. Some photographs in this exhibition may be distressing. \nThe exhibition runs during Frome Museum’s normal opening hours: 11am to 3pm Tuesday to Saturday\, plus Independent Market Sundays (5th July) \nwww.frome-museum.org \nThis event is part of Frome Festival.
