SUMMARY:Rewilding in Action: A Tour of Heal Somerset with Heal Co-Founder Jan Stannard
DESCRIPTION:Come along and learn more about nature-led recovery at Heal’s first rewilding site\, Heal Somerset.\nHeal Somerset began its recovery from its ecologically depleted state at the beginning of 2023 and nature here is already beginning to bounce back. This tour is a unique opportunity to spend time with Heal’s co-founder and acting CEO\, Jan Stannard\, who will take you around part of our beautiful site on mown paths. \nYou will learn more around the wider context of rewilding\, including the reasons we need it and the benefits it brings to nature\, the climate and to our own wellbeing. Jan will talk about the rewilding principles that Heal follows and give you an insight into some of our plans for the land\, particularly the interventions we’re considering and our plans for future livestock introductions. The group will also hear about some of the changes we have seen on the site already\, including the very welcome appearance of wild-living beavers. \nYou will also hopefully experience some of the varied wildlife we have on site\, but even if the creatures are elusive on the day\, we know you will still find the site a beautiful\, peaceful and restorative place to be. \nYour tour will finish with refreshments in our 17th century farmhouse where conversations about rewilding and Heal can continue.

SUMMARY:Wet\, Wet\, Wet: Beaver and Human Wetlands of Heal Somerset
DESCRIPTION:Discover how humans and beavers are joining forces to restore vibrant wetland ecosystems at Heal Somerset. On this guided walk and talk with rewilding ranger Daniel Hill\, you will experience first-hand these developing wetlands and learn how dams\, ponds\, scrapes and more can shape water movement\, biodiversity\, and habitat recovery. Together you will explore how beaver activity and human intervention can complement each other to create healthier habitats\, cleaner water\, and climate-resilient ecosystems. \nAbout Daniel Hill \nAs the Rewilding Ranger at Heal Somerset\, Dan manages the site’s monitoring and land management programs. You can find him surveying for signs of beavers\, co-ordinating volunteer work parties\, or working with partners to deliver the hydrological restoration plan\, amongst a huge variety of other tasks. Dan’s passion for nature was sparked as a child growing up on an organic small holding in rural south Wales watching red kites soar above. His love of rewilding developed through volunteering with the RSPB on the Somerset Levels after completing a degree in Mathematical Sciences.

SUMMARY:Slow Sunday at 42 Acres
DESCRIPTION:Spend a slow Sunday afternoon at 42 Acres and reconnect with nature\, with each other\, and with the elements.\nCome as you are and spend a relaxed Sunday of outdoor vibes. Gather in our forest glade for our signature vegetarian wild dining experience. Your meal will be cooked over an open fire with nourishing ingredients organically-grown and wild-foraged on this land.\nGo for a wild swim in the beaver-filled lake\, and relax in the wood-fired sauna. Or simply take time and space to rest and restore on land that has been allowed to do the same. \nYou’re welcome to do as much or as little as you like:\n– Roam the 173 acres of our land – home to millions of lives.\n– Wild swim in our 7-acre lake or take out our rowboat\, SUP board\, or canoe. (Please note these activities are at your own risk – there is no lifeguard).\n– Look out for beaver\, otter\, wild boar\, hare\, deer and a multitude of birds.\n– Explore our rewilded spaces; woodland mushroom farm; permaculture garden; edible ornamental walled garden; species re-introduction projects; and secret treehouse. Or just chill and chat.\n– Add on a holistic treatment (advance bookings only) \nSlow Sundays run from 11am-4pm on the following dates:\n– Sun 5 Apr 2026 (Easter Sunday)\n– Sun 3 May\n– Sun 28 Jun\n– Sun 19 Jul\n– Sun 30 Aug (Bank holiday weekend)\n– Sun 20 Sep \nFeedback from Past Slow Sundays:\n‘I took some proper time out today. Slow Sundays at 42 Acres Retreat are all about connection – with yourself\, with others\, and with nature.\nWild swimming\, a wood-fired sauna\, woodland walks\, and incredible food grown on the land itself – all shared around a long table in the woods\, with birdsong overhead and an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life. It’s a really well-thought-out setup. Simple\, but intentional. The team were welcoming\, knowledgeable (beavers\, storks\, permaculture\, mushroom farms\, soil-to-gut) and clearly passionate about what they’re building. This was their first Slow Sunday- here’s to many more!’\nLynda\, Slow Sunday Guest\, June 2025. \n‘A group of 6 of us attended 42Acres Slow Sunday and we all throughly enjoyed ourselves. The land is beautiful\, with lots of lovely quiet trails to walk and soak it all up. We even spotted storks\, buzzards and believe we may have accidentally bumped into a wild boar too. The setting for lunch is fabulous. Really cosy atmosphere and delicious food. Some of us even jumped in the lake for a quick swim which was really refreshing.’\nLucy\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025 \n‘Beautiful experience of reconnection to people\, place and soul.’\nSara\, Slow Sunday Guest\, August 2025. \nPlease Note:\n– Must be booked in advance. SUMMARY:Hope for Nature: Why Rewilding Matters (online)
DESCRIPTION:Already think of yourself as an avid rewilder — or not even sure what rewilding means? Either way\, you’re welcome to join this engaging introduction to rewilding with Jan Stannard\, co-founder and CEO of Heal. \nWe know that we need rewilding. England is one of the most nature-depleted countries ranking 234th in the world for its state of nature and one in six species are threatened with extinction. For us\, rewilding means giving nature what it needs to heal. Trees and wildflowers flourish\, wildlife comes back in abundance and vulnerable species begin to recover. \nIn this session Jan will talk about the key principles of rewilding\, discuss the approach taken by Heal and consider the very real impact upon nature\, climate change and our own wellbeing. She will also look at how these principles can translate into smaller spaces including gardens. \nAbout Jan Stannard \nJan Stannard is the co-founder and CEO of Heal. She moved into the charity sector after 40 years’ experience in business\, having served on company boards in the strategic communications and digital marketing sectors. She has led the charity since its launch in 2020 through a phase of rapid growth\, including the acquisition of the Heal Somerset site\, and is now starting to look at funding options for the next site.

SUMMARY:Adam Frost
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning British garden designer and BBC Gardeners’ World presenter\, Adam Frost\, is leaving the garden and heading back out on tour! \nIn his most personal show to date\, Adam will discuss the plants that have shaped his life and reflect on what’s brought him to where he is now. He’ll unearth the inspiration he’s found through a life in the garden\, the people he’s met along the way\, the music that’s steered his course and why he identifies as an ‘old romantic fool’. \nAdam will share previously untold stories of how his passion for plants has taken him around the world and challenged him with unexpected experiences – from curating a garden in Japan during a monsoon to meeting heroes. \nCloser to home\, gardening is fundamental to Adam’s sense of family\, wellbeing and recovery. In September 2021\, he found himself grappling with the mental scars of the pandemic and facing a momentous house (or more importantly\, garden) move. He’ll talk about navigating that change and reconnecting with nature. \nAdam will also explore the creative act of putting a garden together and how he’s had to learn to embrace his artistic side. \nDon’t miss your chance to hear Adam’s amusing anecdotes and poignant reflections\, and to immerse yourself not just in gardening\, but in human nature itself and the madness of it all.

SUMMARY:Michaela Strachan - Not Just A Wild Life
DESCRIPTION:You’ve seen her cuddling orangutans\, being “Wide Awake” on Saturday mornings and almost skating to glory on Dancing on Ice. Now\, wildlife TV legend Michaela Strachan swaps the binoculars for the spotlight in her brand-new live theatre show “Not Just A Wild Life”. \nMarking 40 years in the public eye – on our screens\, in the wild and sometimes out of her depth. From The Wide Awake Club\, The Hitman And Her and The Really Wild Show to Countryfile\, Springwatch and beyond\, the show laughs at the chaos of TV\, celebrates the beauty of nature and reflects on what it means to grow up – and grow older – on screen. \nIt’s a high energy\, funny and heart-warming journey through four decades of conservation and re-invention. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be upstaged by an elephant\, wrangle the likes of Chris Packham\, or ice skate on National TV looking like Julie Andrews\, then this show is for you! Not Just A Wild Life promises an evening of inspiration\, nostalgia and genuine connection – for nature nerds\, nostalgia lovers\, and anyone who’s ever wondered how a rubber chicken can change the course of your life.

SUMMARY:Morning Chorus Bird Walk with Rob Frith
DESCRIPTION:Morning Chorus Bird Walk with Rob Frith\nJoin us for a relaxed and informative morning at Vallis Farm\, timed to coincide with the early bird activity without the pre-dawn start. \nWe’ll meet at 7:30am at the farmhouse entrance. After a hot drink to get us going\, we’ll head out on a guided walk around the farm with ecologist and bird expert Rob Frith\, exploring the land and listening to the morning chorus as it builds. \nRob will help us identify the birds we hear (and hopefully see)\, explain what’s happening ecologically at this time of year\, and share insights into how the farm supports wildlife. With a bit of luck\, we may also spot barn owls that regularly hunt over the fields. \nAfter the walk\, we’ll return to the farmhouse for a cooked breakfast made with locally sourced ingredients\, including eggs from our rescue hens. We’ll eat together around the table\, with time to ask Rob questions and chat more broadly about birds\, farming\, and the wider landscape. \nThe morning will wrap up at 10:30\, leaving you well fed\, well informed and hopefully feeling a little more connected to the land around you. \nThis is one of two Morning Chorus Bird Walks. 10th April and 24th April \nCost: £28 per person \nA thoughtful\, unhurried way to start the day\, for anyone curious about birds\, ecology\, and the rhythms of a working farm. \nAnd why not extend your experience by spending the night in one of our Shepherd’s Huts?

SUMMARY:Dress Up Friday - The Coat of Hopes - Frome Connects May 2026
DESCRIPTION:On the first of May as part of the Frome Connects project and the ongoing weekly “Dress Up Fridays”\, we are welcoming the Coat of Hopes to the Boyle Cross in the centre of Frome.\nThe Coat of Hopes is a patchwork coat on an ongoing walking pilgrimage through the UK towards the end of the climate and ecological emergency.\nIt has been made by and worn and walked by many hundreds of people on a journey on foot of over 2000 miles so far. It carries people’s hopes for the places they live\, sewn into the blanket patches of which it is made.\nAll who encounter it are invited to wear it and (whilst the Coat song is sung) take a moment to be conscious of themselves at this time\, standing in connection with all those who have made or worn the Coat before them and with the life and land it has witnessed on its way.\nWe will meet at the fountain to honour the coat and all it stands for – connecting with ourselves\, our community and the planet. \nTake a look at a short video about the Coat of Hopes here.

Please do not come without a ticket because we will not be able to accommodate you.\n– Adults only.\n– Alcohol-free.\n– Please bring swimwear and towels to go in the lake and/or sauna.\n– Please dress for the weather. This experience will go ahead in most weather conditions. If extreme weather prevents us from going ahead\, we will provide an alternative indoor experience on the same date.\n– Spaces are limited\, please book early to avoid disappointment.\n– As much as we love our four-legged friends\, we can not allow dogs on this experience.\n-Subject to availability. \nIf you have any questions\, please feel free to give our friendly team a call on 01373 887642 before booking.\nTerms & Conditions: \nTerms & Conditions – Workshops & Experiences
