Join for a celebratory reception from 7pm with fizz and refreshments. \n“King of Fools” is written by former Frome Festival Director\, Martin Dimery\, in musical collaboration with Helen Turner\, renowned keyboard player with Paul Weller’s Style Council\, and subsequent work. \nSet in the court of Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn\, Henry’s famous jester\, Will Sommers\, finds himself the butt of the King’s frustration as the royal divorce goes through interminable delays. Will discovers a young barmaid called Jane\, in a Cheapside tavern\, entertaining the regulars. Will thinks Jane could be the ideal companion and female jester for Anne. He presents her at court as “Jane Fool” and she becomes an instant success. He has also secretly fallen in love with her. As Henry’s disillusionment with Anne grows\, so Jane is drawn into Cromwell’s evil plot to be rid of Henry’s young queen. Anne\, though\, sees Jane as the perfect scapegoat\, setting up a gripping finale from the scaffold. \nThe musical score draws a range of styles from rock to vaudeville and Music Hall. DESCRIPTION:Step back in time to meet one of the UK’s most celebrated cult television entertainers! \nWacaday’s utterly brilliant\, ‘Timmy Mallett’ will be joining us on Friday 10th July at Rook Lane Chapel\, Frome. The evening will feature an intimate up close and personal event with an onstage live interview plus an audience Q&A hosted by former ITV presenter\, Jon Monie. \nExpect fun\, laughter and the possibility of an impromptu game of Mallett’s Mallet! \nTimmy began presenting on our television screens with the brand-new Wide Awake Club in 1984\, alongside Michaela Strachan. In 1985\, Timmy was offered the chance to present a spin-off of Wide Awake Club\, called Wacaday. The programme was characterised by games such as the now classic “Mallett’s Mallet” \nSince then Timmy has hosted many successful shows and regularly makes guest appearances on other programmes where his entertaining opinions\, loud looks and good humour make him a popular guest. \nWith West End show producer Andrew Lloyd Webber\, Timmy Mallett formed the “band” Bombalurina\, reaching number 1 in the official UK charts whilst topping the charts in more than a dozen countries around the world. He’s worked with George Martin and featured in Skepta’s music video for the hit song\, ‘Rolex Sweep’ accompanying Skepta at the MOBO awards. \nTimmy is an accomplished artist who has had his work exhibited at various art galleries; enjoys cult status among students and young adults\, has sat on every seat at Man Utd and City; owns over 87 pairs of specs; built a pole house on the great barrier reef\, cycled thousands of miles around the coastline of England and Ireland\, and gave a break to Mike Myers & Chris Evans among others; debated at the Oxford Union and runs his own successful TV production company. \nInterviewer\, Jon Monie is a familiar face to West County audiences – either through his fifteen years as a presenter for HTV/ITV West\, or from his many comic pantomime performances. \nThis Christmas will be his 24th panto season\, having performed at Bath’s Theatre Royal over 1\,300 times. \nAs an award-winning writer he has scripted numerous pantomimes which are performed throughout the UK each year\, five children’s plays\, and is currently working on the book and lyrics of a new musical which is set to tour in 2027. \nRecent TV acting credits include The Nevers (HBO); Showtrial and The Outlaws (both BBC)\, and Bridgerton (Netflix).
