SUMMARY:A Portrait of Gaza in photographs and poetry
DESCRIPTION:Frome Friends of Palestine are hosting an exhibition entitled “A Portrait of Gaza in photographs and Poetry” in Frome. This will be held at the Black Swan Art Gallery (Round Tower) on Bridge Street between 10am and 4pm from Tuesday 24th February to 8th March\, every day except Monday 2nd March. Admission is free. \nThe exhibition features a series of photographs by Ahmed Abu Aisha\, a 27-year-old man born and raised in Gaza. Every photo was taken during the months he lived through the Israeli invasion of Gaza in the autumn of 2023 \nAlso included are a collection of illustrated poems by children aged 9 to 15\, also from Gaza. Most of the students featured have been displaced and their schools have been damaged or destroyed. Two of the students were killed in October 2023.

SUMMARY:Dual Natures Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Dual Natures brings together the paintings of Hannah Thomas and Genevieve Leavold in an exhibition that examines the duality inherent in both the natural world and human experience. Rooted in these tensions\, the exhibition explores the interplay between emotional and physical states\, conscious and unconscious impulses\, and the subjectivity of interpretation and visceral response in an audience. \nHannah Thomas’ practice is driven by an investigation into moral ambiguity and humanity’s conflicted relationship with nature. Through a semi-abstracted process\, with recurring potent motifs\, the resulting landscapes pulse with hints of predation. Through this lens\, nature is presented as a site of constant movement and adaptation\, where beauty and violence co-exist and identity remains unstable. \nGenevieve Leavold is predominantly known for her freeform\, organic paintings\, her reverence for spontaneous gesture draws from Zen\, Buddhism\, and other philosophies that embrace the concept of universal consciousness. Her approach is immediacy; working wet colour into wet and layering glazes gives her work its recognisable softness and movement.. Characterised by sweeping forms emerging from a dark background\, her paintings developed from observations of nature in man-made environments. \nBoth artists have paintings in collections in the UK and abroad and have exhibited extensively worldwide. \nDual Natures invites viewers to reflect on the contradictions that shape our understanding of self and environment\, and on the uneasy balance between attraction and repulsion that defines humanity’s relationship with the natural world. \nBoth artists have work held in private and corporate collections worldwide and have exhibited widely in the UK\, US and Europe. \nPrivate View: Thursday 26th February 5pm – 9pm\nArtist Talk: Saturday 28th Feb 10am (45mins) Ticketed £5\nExhibition Opening Hours: 11am – 6pm

You’ll learn the key features needed to safely identify each mushroom and where each is commonly found. \nIn the afternoon you will be creating your own wild mushroom ‘medicine cabinet.’ You will learn how to safely preserve your mushrooms and extract their medicine for use all year round\, in yours and your loved ones lives – for a host of illness and preventative uses. This medicine is often very expensive and our shared vision is to support you to be able to do it yourself safely. Our intention is for you to feel empowered to harvest your own mushroom medicine cabinet and grow your own medicinal mushrooms. \nYou will also learn the ancient technique of mushroom inoculation – a highly sustainable method that mimics nature and produces mushrooms dense in nutrients that are hard to find from other food sources. DESCRIPTION:We gather at Vallis Farm for an Italian supper shaped by season\, place and the pleasure of eating well. \nThe evening centres on a set menu inspired by Italian home cooking\, brought to you by Burnt Sugar Collective\, using seasonal produce sourced with care. Frontman\, radio and television broadcaster\, author and DJ\, Huey is many things at once. Coming to prominence as the frontman and driving force of the eclectic American Rap/Rock outfit Fun Lovin’ Criminals\, Morgan led the band from 1993 – 2021. Best known for the hit record Scooby Snacks\, Fun Lovin’ Criminals released six albums between 1996 and 2010 and sold over 10 million records. \nAs host of The Huey Show on BBC Radio 6 since 2008\, Morgan is a cherished voice on national radio in the UK\, where he hosts a mix of Hip Hop\, Soul\, Punk\, Funk\, Rock and everything in between to his listeners. \nA charismatic\, authentic\, passionate\, and popular renegade himself\, Huey’s groove is infectious. After coming across a bootleg cassette of South African township music in the early 80s\, Paul Simon was totally smitten by the infectious & irresistible rhythms. He travelled to Johannesburg\, spending two weeks there\, recording with the absolute cream of South African musicians. \nThat epic session\, went on to form the basis of Simon’s most commercially successful album ever – Graceland. The record became a true global phenomenon\, winning Grammys in both 1987 & 88\, shifting 5 million copies Stateside & then another 2.5 million copies in the UK alone. As it blew up worldwide\, the Graceland album spawned the hit singles\, ‘Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes’\, ‘The Boy in the Bubble’ & it’s biggest smash – ‘You Can Call Me Al.’ \nThe London African Gospel Choir are a collective of African singers\, musicians & dancers. DESCRIPTION:Frome Community Bike Project celebrates International Women’s Day with ‘Back on the Saddle’ event. \nCome along to a friendly\, supportive event for International Women’s Day\, to help women rediscover cycling or try it for the first time. ‘Back on the Saddle’ will be a relaxed\, drop-in session taking place at the FCBP Workshop\, Sunday 8th March\, 10am – 1pm\, focused on building confidence\, sharing information and meeting others in a welcoming environment. \nWhether your bike’s been gathering dust or you’re feeling a bit nervous about getting started\, you’ll learn how to give your bike a simple safety check\, get tips on safer\, quieter routes around Frome\, and have the chance to meet new cycling buddies. You don’t need to have a bike to take part\, just come and find out about FCBP and ask anything cycling related. You’re also invited to bring your bike along for a free safety check. There will be information on choosing the right bike\, the correct size and essential safety equipment – you can even try some out. Find out about child seats\, trailers\, cargo bikes\, and how to cycle safely with children\, or getting back on a bike with kids. \nLed by experienced female volunteers\, Back on the Saddle is relaxed\, encouraging and judgement free. There is no pressure\, no pace setting and no prior experience needed. Just a chance to connect\, learn and build confidence on two wheels. There will be tea and cake\, with plenty of time to chat\, ask questions. Come on your own or with a friend. You don’t need to be “a cyclist” – just curious!
