The Meddling of Mrs Harris

10th Jul 2018 @ 19:30

£6

What connects a missionary’s wife, a famous American author, and a European King responsible for atrocities in the Belgian Congo? The answer is the Kodak camera of the meddlesome woman who photographed human rights abuses, alerting the world to the appalling reign of terror in Africa under King Leopold II. That woman was Alice Seeley Harris from Frome. Local writer Peter Clark presents a performance version of Mark Twain’s satirical “King Leopold’s Soliloquy”, first delivered in 1905. Supported by Nevertheless Productions. Profits go to Anti-Slavery International.
