SUMMARY:Los Pacaminos ft. Paul Young
DESCRIPTION:Los Pacaminos is a Tex-Mex band that was formed by pop star Paul Young in 1992 during a break in his music career. The band originally consisted of six members\, including guitarist Jamie Moses\, accordion/keyboard player Matt Irving\, songwriter Drew Barfield\, bassist Steve Greetham\, and drummer Mark Pinder. They played their first gig at a local pub in Richmond in November of that year and continued to perform together\, growing tighter as friends and musicians with each show. \nAlthough the band was formed as a side project\, they started writing their own songs and it became clear that this was not going to be a short-term venture. In 1997\, pedal steel player Melvin Duffy was added to the lineup after a suggestion from Jamie\, and he quickly became a permanent member of the band. \nIn 2002\, Los Pacaminos released their first album\, which was a collection of 12 original songs that drew inspiration from their Tex-Mex influences\, including the Texas Tornados\, The Sir Douglas Quintet\, Flaco Jimenez\, as well as Ry Cooder\, Calexico\, Roy Orbison\, The Band and Chuck Berry. The album received positive reviews and helped to establish the band’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the Tex-Mex music scene. \nOver the years\, Los Pacaminos has faced some challenges\, including the loss of founder member Matt Irving to cancer in 2015. However\, the band continues to thrive and explore the music of the Southwest. Now together for over 30 years and with an unmatched live reputation\, as well as two acclaimed studio albums and two live albums to their name\, they are releasing their 3rd studio album of original songs. Los Pacaminos show nosigns of stopping anytime soon.

Dan’s passion for nature was sparked as a child growing up on an organic small holding in rural south Wales watching red kites soar above. His love of rewilding developed through volunteering with the RSPB on the Somerset Levels after completing a degree in Mathematical Sciences.

Would you like to understand more about what happens when someone dies\, or how to support yourself\, or others\, through times of change\, uncertainty and loss? Are you curious about what helps people feel less alone in their grief? \nThis gentle\, welcoming event creates space to talk openly about grief and to challenge the stigma that often surrounds it. Through short talks\, small-group conversations\, lived stories\, creative experiences and shared food\, we explore how grief is lived and supported and supported by community\, alongside some of the challenges we can face. There will be opportunities to hear people’s personal experiences of loss and what has helped them through\, alongside practical and emotional perspectives on bereavement. \nThe event is designed to be relaxed and supportive. You can drop in at any point and you are equally welcome to stay for the whole event. Whether you are personally affected by grief\, curious to learn more\, or working locally with people around loss and bereavement\, you are warmly invited. \nAlongside the conversations\, there will be a warming lunch of soup provided by The Good Heart (£3 per cup)\, plenty of tea and cake\, singing from Companion Voices\, and spaces to reflect. We will be displaying the Somerset Speak Their Name Memorial Quilt and the beautiful tree mural created collaboratively at last year’s event.

DESCRIPTION:In the mid to late 1980s\, The Pogues were one of the wildest and most talked-about bands of the era. They crashed punk rock headlong into Irish Folk\, lyrically ignited by singer/songwriter Shane MacGowan’s brutal yet romantic observations on life at the dog end of the Thatcher revolution. Full of spirit\, in both senses of the word\, there was simply no other band like them. \nWith a full line-up and the pick of the songs from five studio albums\, The Phogues pay tribute to the greatest Irish band that Ireland never produced. Like the original\, the eight members of the Phogues come from all over the place. Also like the Pogues\, some have Irish heritage; others don’t. What unites them is supreme musical skill and a desire to honour Shane’s songs and the band that gave them to the world. \nThe Phogues have live experience ranging from Somerset’s famous cider pubs to the internationally famous Sidmouth Folk Festival. They bring verve\, energy and authenticity to every show they play\, backed up by songs including ‘Sally McLennane’\, ‘The Irish Rover’\, ‘Thousands Are Sailing’\, ‘Streams Of Whiskey’ and\, of course\, the greatest Christmas song ever written\, ‘Fairytale of New York’ – which they’ll happily play even on a boiling hot summer’s Afternoon. \nThe Phogues will sweep your audience back to the days when Guinness was 50p a pint\, the racing was on the telly in the corner of the boozer and there was always an ‘oul fella’ at the bar\, sharing his wit and wisdom. Happy\, raucous times brought right into the present by no less than the best Pogues tribute band in the UK. \nAnd if you don’t believe us\, Shane MacGowan himself said of The Phogues\, “It’s brilliant.” \nPogue Mahone!!

Forgiveness is never about saying that what happened was okay; it’s about finding freedom and moving on from the past. \nWe’ll also talk about why forgiveness can be so hard\, and the most common obstacles that get in our way. Led by expert guide Nick Patel\, this gentle walk offers the chance to slow down\, enjoy the season together and reconnect with wildlife. \nAs the landscape awakens\, you’ll discover the first signs of life in this rewilding haven\, from insects taking flight and birdsong filling the air to the early blooms of wildflowers. \nAs the season awakens\, this relaxed guided walk offers a unique opportunity to witness the first signs of life emerging in a rewilding landscape\, from the first insects on the wing\, singing birds to the early bloom of wildflowers. \nNick will share his deep knowledge of local ecosystems and the rich diversity of wildlife that live within them\, sharing fascinating insights into the flora and fauna that make Heal Somerset a sanctuary for nature and helping you spot some of the wildlife on site including\, hopefully\, some early migrating birds. \nWhat you might see: cuckooflower\, coltsfoot\, dead nettles and violets\, and hopefully you may catch a glimpse of some amazing spring birds and wildlife including wheatear\, sand martin\, chiffchaff\, peacock\, brimstone\, tawny mining bee\, early bumblebee and perhaps even a common lizard.

DESCRIPTION:We probably danced before we talked. Moving our bodies is part of being kind to ourselves and brings us in contact with others and with our environment. Dance gives us the freedom to move and become more joyfully empowered. \nIn this Dance Event you are invited to participate in three very different styles of dance. We will start with the luxurious curves and fluid moves of the Middle East\, progress to connecting with the power and earthiness of Africa and finish with the calm and meditative moves of the Circle Dance\, a form of dance that stretches across continents and cultures\, and connects us both to our inner selves and to the world around us. \nWe invite you to join in the experience of all three dances as a journey in music and movement. It is also possible to join for just one or two sessions of the three. \nWear loose comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement and soft shoes suitable for dancing \nBring a scarf large enough to tie round your hips for the Middle Eastern dance. \nThis event takes place at Rook Lane Chapel\, Bath Street\, Frome\, BA11 1DN.
