Resilience Practice for communities & businesses (join online or in-person)

8th Jun 2021 @ 09:30 - 12:30

How can we make our communities & businesses more resilient? Join this course & discussion online or in-person in Frome, Somerset.

The course aims to bring together business professionals, entrepreneurs, activists, leaders of community-based organisations, staff and councillors at local level, and members of statutory services. Besides providing some expert input, the course will allow time for facilitated discussion in small groups and action planning, with plenty of coffee breaks for informal conversations – both offline & online. The course includes contributions from Johannes Moeller, Jean Boulton, Gavin Eddy, Kate Hellard, and Neil Oliver. It is run by Edventure Frome CIC, in partnership with Frome Town Council and Somerset Skills & Learning.

  1. A systems view of resilience: Jean Boulton, a management consultant, author and lecturer on complexity, will provide a systems view on resilience, and share examples and principles of integrative solutions which bring together the social, economic and environmental.
  2. Personal & Family Resilience: Jane James, a coach, catalyst, author and systemic practitioner will bring perspectives on how individuals and families can resource and support themselves and each other to build resilience.
  3. Organisational & Business Resilience: Gavin Eddy, an investor and serial entrepreneur most known locally for setting up the Frome Independent Market and a number of co-working spaces across the South West will share examples and principles of building a resilient business.
  4. Resilience in neighbourhoods & the town level: Kate Hellard, the community development manager at Frome Town Council will share her insights from working with local people, community groups and public agencies to identify and deliver community projects that build resilience.
  5. Inter-cultural view on resilience: Neil Oliver, a director at Edventure, international conflict resolution facilitator, and contributor to Geneva Peace Week, will offer examples and perspectives on how different cultures relate to resilience.

You can book a sponsored ticket – either for joining in-person or online. For anyone else, please choose a standard ticket. Somerset Skills & Learning is funding the course for Somerset residents. Sponsored tickets will require you to complete some paperwork before and after the course. The funding does not cover BANES, Bath and Bristol. There is a £5.00 booking fee for funded in-person places.
