Mr Rook’s Presents: Silence Part I by Rachel Rose Reid

12th Apr 2018 @ 19:30 - 22:00

£7.50 – £9

A Storytelling Performance for Adults

In the whole world, only one manuscript unfolds the Roman de Silence. Inscribed in the 13th century, it was rediscovered in 1911 at Wollaton Manor, Nottinghamshire, in a box marked ‘Old Papers, No Value’. But it was too hot to handle – suffrage protests were at their explosive height – and this ancient tale revealed how King Arthur’s own lineage depended on a quest for female freedoms.

So the legend was silenced once more. But the story was made to be told. Now is the time to tell it.

A tale of naughty trysts and gender shifts, chivalry and shade, nature and nurture, music, mayhem, and a ravenous Merlin on the trail of a juicy bit of steak.

Immense skill and breathless conviction. There’s no faulting Reid’s command of her craft. The Times

Rachel Rose Reid is a UK-based storyteller who has performed around the globe and for BBC Radio 3, the Crick Crack Club, & Beyond the Border.

Mr Rook’s Speak Easy is a performance storytelling event based at Rook Lane Chapel in the heart of Frome, Somerset. Storytelling is an ancient artform, enjoying a resurgence in this country. Without props or costumes the images created are personal to each member of the audience, making them immediate and powerful.  Our events are aimed at adults and may contain material that is not suitable for children.
