Kitchen Medicine to Help the Climate

Staying fit and well is a little known way that we can reduce our impact on the planet. The NHS in England emits around 20 million tonnes of carbon a year and spends over £50m a year on carbon permits. By reducing our demand for medicines and preventing ailments that add pressure to our health services, we can help the health of the planet too.

In this free workshop we will learn about local and seasonal plants and make immune-boosting tonics* before the cold and flu season hits, sharing stories and knowledge. You will learn to make and take home a rosehip and elderberry syrup to take home, together with recipes and plant information sheets.

*the tonics should be considered as an additional tool to help prepare the body to fight off colds and flu and not a substitution for flu and Covid vaccinations.

This event is part of The Big Green Week which will see a week of events celebrating how the Frome Community is taking action to tackle climate change and protect our green spaces.

About the facilitator – Steph Wehowski

I am a sculptor, stonemason, and installation artist and I am currently training to be a professional medical herbalist after many years of making my own ‘lotions and potions’ supplying myself, family and friends. For the last 10 years I have been active in a collective doing residencies and teaching about herbs and health and how to connect and get closer to plants and nature in a creative, fun and experiential way. I am passionate about sharing and applying knowledge of herbs that grow around us to empower our communities and individual well-being. And carrying on my grandma’s old recipes, especially anything woodruff infused!
