Kitchen medicine to help the climate – Workshop 3

21st Nov 2021 @ 14:00 - 16:00

Coughs and colds without the cost poster

Learn more about local plants and kitchen cupboard ingredients that can help support your health – and the health of the planet!

In this third workshop, we’ll learn about caring for coughs and colds without costing the bank or earth!

People in the UK spend well over £400million on over-the-counter cough and cold medicines in a typical year. But did you know that you can avoid a trip to the pharmacy, save your wallet and care for yourself just as well by making a few simple winter remedies for your first aid kit? Join us to make a natural cough syrup and learn how to manage typical seasonal ailments like common colds using local herbs and the contents of your kitchen cupboard.

We will be sharing knowledge of plants that help with managing typical ailments this winter season. You’ll deepen your appreciation for the natural world as a vital source of health for us, as well as hearing stories and recipes from Steph’s grandmother’s cupboard. There will be a recipe and handouts for participants to take away.

*these remedies should not be considered substitutes for flu or Covid vaccinations.

Please bring a clean glass jar or bottle to take your remedies away in – recycled if you can!

This workshops is part of a series taking place this Autumn:

Workshop I: Immunity boosters (September 26)

Workshop II: Infection prevention (October 24)

Workshop III: Coughs and colds (November 21)

About the facilitator – Steph Wehowski

I am a sculptor, stonemason, and installation artist and I am currently training to be a professional medical herbalist after many years of making my own ‘lotions and potions’ supplying myself, family and friends. For the last 10 years I have been active in a collective, doing residencies and teaching about herbs and health and how to connect and get closer to plants and nature in a creative, fun and experiential way. I am passionate about sharing and applying knowledge of herbs that grow around us to empower our communities and individual well-being – and carrying on my grandma’s old recipes.
