Ceramic & Glass Jewellery Workshop

16th Jun 2018 @ 10:00 - 16:00

This is a fun workshop where you will get to create lots of contemporary and beautiful ceramic and glass jewellery. You will learn how to use porcelain and other clays, how to create glass beads and fused glass jewellery. We will also look at putting the jewellery components together with silver to create stunning wearable jewellery pieces.

Facilitator: Kim Birchall

Obsessed with arts and crafts from an early age, Kim went off to study design in the heart of the British potteries in Stoke-on-Trent’s, Staffordshire University aged just 18. Graduating with a BA Honors in Design and specialising in glass and ceramics, she then went on to have a career as a glassblower and teacher of glass for many years, before returning to her first love of pottery.

Kim now works out of Nunney Pottery in Somerset, creating a range of ceramics and glassware, her most recent body of work focuses on using stunning crystaline glazes. Creating hand thrown pieces with English porcelain, Kim then grows crystals within the glaze, in the kiln.

Kim is also passionate about sharing her skills and introducing other people to glass and ceramics. She runs regular courses from her Somerset workshop, is a visiting lecturer at universities and runs specialist master classes at other venues.

When not working with pottery (which is most of the time), Kim is also a mum of three and a kundalini yoga teacher.
