This week we spoke to Jamie of Frometech, who will be celebrating the business’ second birthday in January.
Could you tell us about yourself?
Hi, I’m Jamie from Frometech. We are a Frome based IT Support company offering IT support, maintenance and consultation services to the businesses in Frome and the surrounding 12 miles.
We also offer our support and maintenance services to residential customers in the same 12 mile radius.
I was born in Frome at the old Victoria Hospital and have spent all of my life here. I went to Frome College and then to Radstock College to gain my IT certifications, and then out to work in IT. My first IT job was supporting a company in Bath who used to make the magazines for the Odeon Cinema chain. Over the past 15 years I have worked my way through a few IT jobs and have gained a comprehensive insight into IT systems, both PC and Mac. All of my Microsoft certifications have come from me setting aside time in the evenings to attend the online training courses before going to take the exams. All in all I have taken and passed over 12 Microsoft exams, 3 CompTIA exams and three Google exams!
By combining my 15+ years in the IT industry and my qualifications I believe we can offer a truly outstanding level of service to our customers!
Tell us all about Frometech
Our business is called Frometech and our second birthday is on the 14th January 2016.
I had always wanted to run my own business and it was a New Year’s resolution of mine to start up my own company. I strongly believe in giving customers a superb level of service at an excellent value for money. From some of the horror stories I had heard of before starting the company I made sure this ethos was built into Frometech from day one.
In April of 2014 Frometech was becoming too busy for me to manage on my own, so I brought Mitch Gregory on board to help me with the workload.
Both Mitch and I are both Microsoft certified professionals, I believe holding current, relevant certification helps our customers to feel confident, safe and secure in what we do. We adhere to strict data protection policies which means our customers’ data, including passwords and email addresses are securely kept to some of the highest standards possible.
We can fix PCs, Laptops, iPads and tablets. Our fixes can range from removing a virus to replacing a laptop or iPad screen. We take great pleasure in serving over 20 businesses and 500+ residential customers in Frome alone!
Why did you choose Frome for your business base?
Being from Frome it has always seemed the obvious choice to set up my business here.
The people of Frome in both the business and local communities are very supportive, word of mouth has been our greatest advertising opportunity by far!
There was a struggle for us to find office space, but we have just moved into an outstanding office in the Forward Space complex off of Park Road, behind the Methodist Chapel.
What piece of advice would you give someone choosing to take the next steps in starting or growing a business?
That’s easy! It takes time for a new business to gain momentum. Keep the faith, believe in yourself and your business and it will happen.
What networking opportunities would you recommend?
We belong to the Bright Business Networking group that meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month in the Archangel from 6.45am to 8.30am. The Bright Group is great for networking and referrals, but there is also a strong ethos of support and collaboration between the group, which has been a great source of help for me in the early days.
I would also strongly suggest working with a business coach. I work with Peter Rolliston from Action Coach and his guidance has been invaluable.

It has to be the community. I have found if you do a great job for one person or business you will get referrals from all of their friends and colleagues.
